Southern Cross Sailing Management Team

About Southern Cross Sailing Adventures

Since 1985 we have been Sailing the Whitsundays and today our different tours cater to a range of customers from Deluxe Market, Couples to Youth Adventure / Backpacker Market to Families.  Jim Theroux started sailing the Whitsundays with just one yacht, and today others partners have joined the company and the fleet has grown to 7 vessels.

We also tailor make Private Charters for clients, from educational services for school / university groups, to weddings, to corporate team building sailing events.

The owners believe that the delivery of quality experiences, across a broad range of segments from Backpackers and Flashpackers to the Deluxe market is paramount to the on-going success and growth of the Whitsunday Tourism Industry.

We are actively involved in the development, promotion and growth of the tourism industry, including Secretariat roles of the Whitsunday Charter Boat Industry Association (WCBIA), plus Chairman of Tourism Whitsundays.  In October 2014, one of our Directors was awarded with the prestigious Whitsunday accolade of "Outstanding Contribution by an Individual" to Tourism.

Most importantly we remain very active in the day to day operations including: working on the dock; answering phones; doing administration; running the accounts; providing agent and crew training and speaking with our customers.  We are proud of the team who work with us to deliver the best possible Whitsunday Sailing experience, including the GM Helen, HR Manager Kylie, Maintenance Manager Shannon, and the Captains and Crews who take the guests sailing around the islands.

We also fully support the endeavours of Eco Tourism and promote Eco Tourism Practices, including education of crew and guests.  We are active in campaigns to ensure that the Great Barrier Reef is protected for future generations, including sending selected staff for training so as they can complete Eye on the Reef Surveys which are forwarded to the Great Barrier Reef  Marine Park Authority.  These surveys provide vital information on the health of our coral reefs which scientists and management use.

In June 2016, we were presented with the ECO Certified Green Travel Leader badge.

We ask every one of our guests to complete a feedback sheet regarding the experience of travelling around the Whitsundays with us. In particular monitoring, check-in services, crew performance, vessel quality, meals, and overall adventure experience.  This feedback is used to improve our services, including training and vessel maintenance.

Thank you for choosing to travel with us!
