Solway Lass - Tall Ship Sailing the Whitsundays (new 2 day 2 night cruise starts 16 Feb 2019)

Solway Lass is one of the most spectacular sailing vessels in the Whitsundays, shined brass and hull lines of yesteryear. Combining traditional style and comfort to suit the solo traveller, the adventurous, as well as families, or couples Solway Lass offers a unique experience for guests of all ages - visiting the major Whitsunday icons, there is so much to see and experience around the islands.

The Captain and crew will provide interpretive information on the Whitsunday Islands and a history talk about Solway Lass. Solway Lass has an amazing history being built in Holland in 1902, 1st registered in Hamburg, serving for Britain as a 'Q' Ship in WWI and a supply ship for Germany in WWII. Named Solway Lass after the Solway Firth in Scotland where she carried cargo to Liverpool and Dublin. Solway Lass was Sydney's Tall Ship from 1985 to 1999, participating in the 1st fleet re-enactment in 1988. Today beautifully restored and maintained and cruising the Whitsundays. The guest accommodation has been tastefully designed to feel 'old world' and consists of 4 or 6 Share, Twin or Double Cabins, all with Air Conditioning. Two cabins offer private bathroom facilities. Some cabins can be converted from multi share for 4 guests, to a double with 2 singles above. We are an Eco Certified operator.

Please note: Upon check-in with the Explore Whitsundays office, you will be provided with a soft bag for you to pack your belongings into, which is the only bag that can be taken on board as it has no zippers that can damage the vessel. At check-in, we also will provide options for luggage storage.
Solway Lass 2 day 2 night Tour departs from Abell Point marina at 5:30pm Saturday, Tuesday or Thursday
(this is a new tour, commencing in February 2019)

Itineraries are flexible and will be designed around the winds and the tides by the Captain.

Day 1: After departure from the marina, sail across the Whitsunday Passage, watching the sunset over the water and enjoying a pre-dinner snack. Arrive at overnight stop on Hook Island.  Dinner is served around 8:00pm.

Day 2: Early start, enjoy breakfast before heading to Tongue Bay and taking a guided bush walk to Hill Inlet Lookout. Take that hero photo of the view to impress your friends and family. Next follow the path down to Whitehaven Beach north.  At the northern end of Whitehaven, be blown away by the pure white silica sands, watch Lemon Sharks and Mantarays in the shallows of Hill Inlet, go for a swim in the azzure waters off the beach. Time for a sunbathe, then head back to Solway Lass. Enjoy lunch before setting the sails and making a passage north before stopping at a secluded bay on Border Island or hook Island. Anchor down and head off for an afternoon snorkel on the fringing coral reefs. Back on board for pre dinner snacks and a few drinks while watching the sunset.  Dinner tonight will be served from 7:30pm to 8:00pm.  Enjoy a bit of socialising the other guests, watch the stars, share stories and listen to a history talk on Solway Lass.

Day 3: Early Breakfast, before making way to Stonehaven anchorage or Langford Reef. Time to snorkel or explore the island.  Around 11am, set the sails and sail across the Whitsunday Passage, passing the Molle Islands before entering Abell Point Marina around 2:15pm.  Pack up your gear and depart Solway Lass at 2:30pm.

What to Pack
Please pack in the soft small bag provided during check-in.  We suggest swimmers, beach towel, sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses, hat, jacket or sweater, sandals/joggers/thongs for island walk, toiletries, and any prescribed medicines.  There are no shops around the islands, so please pick up important items before arriving at the marina.  Don't forget to pack your treats, such as chocolates or crisps.

Drinks
Solway Lass has a fully licenced bar, with a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available to you. The prices of alcohol are reasonable. Drinking water is included throughout your tour, however, soft drinks are available for purchase on board. The crew will keep a tab and you can pay at the end of your tour.

Power
Solway Lass has power points in the bar area and also in the bathrooms, so you can charge phones and tablets etc.

Inexperienced Swimmers/Snorkellers
Don't worry, we supply swimming noodles and additional floatation as required.  We will do a risk assessment on every guest before entering the water. While in the water the small tender will be relatively close by.  We also have staff on look-out duty. In the Whitsundays, the reefs we visit are off the beaches, so it is pretty easy to make way to the beach. If you are really concerned about entering the water, we also have the Glass Bottom Boat on Solway Lass which is wonderful for coral viewing.

Prescription Mask - If you need to wear glasses, you may like to hire a prescription mask for your tour.  Masks can be hired from Aqua Dive, located at the North end of Abell Point Marina. Please allow plenty of time to hire your mask before you need to be at the meeting area for departure.
Solway Lass has 10 air conditioned guest cabins. Guest accommodation is available in multi share 4 or 6 share, double, double/twin with share bathrooms. Two cabins have private ensuite. The four share cabins with 2 sets of single bunks can be converted into a cabin with a double on the bottom and 2 x singles above.
